The ATEX Directive
The ATEX directive applies to protective systems and equipment, intended for use in an explosive atmosphere. It applies to all electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment and any control, monitoring and safety devices that contribute to the safe operating of protective systems and equipment.

An Explosive Atmosphere
This is an atmosphere that has the potential to become explosive due to the local and working conditions. Defined as a mixture of air, along with inflammable substances such as gases, vapours, mist or dust in which, after ignition, combustion spreads to the entire unburned mixture.
